Why the region matters
The biggest difference between Turkish ski resorts is not size but elevation. Bases in Eastern Anatolia mostly sit above 2,000 m; those in Marmara fall between 1,300 and 1,900 m. That thousand-metre gap translates into weeks of season length.
Elevation also decides snow type. At the high eastern resorts the snow is dry and light; at the lower western ones maritime air makes it damp and heavy. The same kit and technique behave differently in the two.
In exchange, the western resorts offer access: proximity to large populations, day-trip feasibility and the freedom to cancel on a bad morning. Which is better depends on what you need.
